How long have you been playing?
About two years.
Have you ever been in low sec?
A very few times.
Do you run missions or complexes in low sec?
Out of hundreds, perhaps thousands of missions, all but three or four have been in hi-sec.
If so, what is the appeal for you?
There is no appeal. It is a worthless experience.
If not, why not?
Gate campers. CCP should end the pretense that there is anything remotely sportsman-like about gate camping. It is the past-time of the slothful simply waiting for remarkably easy kills. Concord can build low-sec gates, but is utterly then not able to defend them or establish a safe zone? Absurd.
Also, requiring PvE ships to engage in NPC battle as well as fight PvP ships at the same time.
Are rewards in low sec in line with the risk?
No. There are currently no low-sec rewards that can compensate for the loss of anything like a BC or a BS or even most cruisers.
Is the risk in low sec over-stated?
I cannot say. What is the statement being made that is possibly over-stated? For me, the risks, real or imaginary, are not worth taking.
Would education from savvy players about how to mitigate risk in low sec encourage folks who didn't just want to AFK L4's to operate there?
The question is insulting. I do not AFK L4s, ever, and the "mitigated" risk would still be too great to lose a PvE fitted ship. How does anyone with any sense expect a PvE fitted ship to fight a PvP fitted ship let alone the usual blob of them?
What is the number one change to low sec that would cause you to considering doing missions and complexes there? (Be realistic! "Kick the pirates out!" is humorous but not realistic.
Why are the gates not more heavily defended by CONCORD? They have guns there that do nothing, allowing the gate campers to just sit about waiting for the next easy target. The area around gates should be relatively safe, not a slaughter pen for campers to play in.
Do you believe it is possible to make low sec changes that would allow both pirates and carebears to co-exist profitably without crippling either's play style to extinction? Why or why not?
I don't know. A good start would be to make Concord's guns stronger, more exits from a system so the gate campers must make more than a trifling effort to trap victims, and to require "keys" to mission areas to make pirates work some missions to possibly obtain the key.
And if you choose to demean all hi-sec players as "carebears" perhaps you should come up with a demeaning term for pirates as well.
